Bergamo is a lovely medieval town in Lombardy. Its original location was a defensive hilltop, and the town was also protected by stout walls (Unesco World Heritage).
Nowadays this historic part of the town is known as the Città Alta (upper town) and it's where you will find most of the historic buildings and tourist sights: Piazza
Vecchia, Palazzo della Ragione, Santa Maria Maggiore, Cappella Colleoni, Rocca, just to name few of them, besides the Archaeological museum, Donizetti Museum and the Science museum.
There is little traffic, and the narrow lanes are pleasant to wander. Most of modern Bergamo spreads over the plain below the old town. The Città Bassa (lower town) is composed
of pleasant wide boulevards and contains many sights of interest:
Accademia Carrara Museum, Gamec Museum and Bernareggi Museum.
San Bartolomeo, Santo Spirito, San Bernardino Churches with the famous Lorenzo Lotto's altarpieces
The two parts of the town are linked by a funicular
Nearby locations include:
Monza (Royal Palace and the famous Chapel of Queen Theodolinda)
Pavia (the University city with Romanesque and Medieval buildings)
Brescia (Roman remains, the large Santa Giulia Museum, Piazza della Loggia)
Cremona (the town of music where Stradivari worked)
The closest airport is Milano-Orio al Serio (20 minutes by car) served by Rayanair, Alitalia, British airways, Pegasus, Vueling, Wizz Air, Neos and others.
From Malpensa airport there's a direct shuttle to Bergamo Airport.

My name is Elena and as a graduated Italian teacher I give my adult students the opportunity to follow tailor-made courses which address their individual
and specific needs. Via individually paced learning, the student is provided with the opportunity to put his learning into practice. With my support, the
student can learn or improve the language in an easy and relaxed way. I love art, reading, cooking, cinema and theater. I also like skiing, walking, bicycling
and swimming. I live with my tee-age son, Giorgio, who loves to meet my students, talking, listening and sharing our lives with them.
Accommodation in Corenno Plinio (Lake Como)
I also offer a wonderful experience on the shore of Lake Como. My cosy home is situated lake front on a private lane and offers a marvellous view over the lake
and the surrounding mountains. From the terrace you can enjoy the beautiful colours of dawn and sunset. You can swim and sunbath, enjoy lake site, have fun while
studying Italian in a relaxing atmosphere.
La casa sul lago
Elena is the best!! Staying with her is the perfect combination of learning Italian and seeing Bergamo & Lake Como. Her son and mother are fantastic and really went out of their way to speak with me
and help me with my italian! I felt completely at home both at Elena's main house in Bergamo and their family's vacation home in Lake Como! It is a truly amazing and beautiful home
that's been in the family for generations.
I also really enjoyed having dinner with Elena's friends. All of them are very nice, and it is a fun way to improve your italian.
I can't say enough about my homestay with Elena!!
Elena, Thank you for everything! I will be back!! Joanne
My time in Italy surpassed my expectations and hopes in every way imaginable. Elena is the loveliest of hosts and an exceptional teacher... patient, enthusiastic, and encouraging.
She is extremely knowledgeable about the history and art of northern Italy. I felt so wonderfully blessed every single day... blessed with delicious food, lovely and comfortable
accommodations, excellent instruction, outstanding art and architecture, extraordinary vistas, and generous friendship. When people ask me about my experience, I find myself almost
speechless, unable to articulate in a way that fully captures the beautiful days I spent exploring Bergamo, Brescia, Monza, Lake Como, and Milan with Elena. Every day she surprised
me with something wonderful!!
I cannot wait to go back! Lisa
Cara Elena, you are so generous to open your home and your heart to this "studentessa della lingua". I will recall your infinite patience and good humour as to
continue my "avventura della lingua italiana". Grazie per tutto e anche grazie a Giorgio. Sharon
