Badia of Dulzago
On a low morainic promontory, overlooking a fertile plain, crossed by the stream Terdoppio, raises the ancient Badia of Dulzago, place of prayer and of industrious agricultural labour.
The religious centre was founded by the regular canons in the early years of the 12th century.
It is one of the last evidences of a very old centre of Roman origins and, as a parish church, gathers together people from the near villages.
The place is surrounded by arboreal vegetation among whose big herons still nest today.
The "Fagiolata"
In the last few centuries, the feast of the patron Saint Julius, on January 31st, has always been celebrated on the last Sunday of January with the “Fagiolata” – The Bean Stew.
Different kinds of vegetables are cooked with meat, pigskins, lard and beans inside seven copper cauldrons placed on a fire of acacia wood. The soup, prepared according to the tradition, is served by the priest to all the people participating in the liturgical celebration.
This ceremony reminds to wealthy and poor Christians that they are all alike before God and the Church, particularly when they eat at the same table, and it traditionally concludes the solemn Mass.
