Our four days with Lucia "breaking the ice" in speaking and understanding Italian were short, but invaluable! Lucia is an excellent teacher who can turn a challenge into fun with her exercises and games. We gained confidence in communicating and a resolute desire to keep improving our Italian.
But that's only part of what she offers. Her daily excursions and experiences with food and culture are well thought-out and have made us fall completely in love with this region. She is an amazing host in every way! Saluti e grazie, Lucia!

From the first time I contacted Lucia by email, I knew I wanted to do a language study and homestay with her. I was impressed with how she responded to my many questions, and by the time I was greeted by her at Milan’s Malpensa airport, I felt we had already developed a strong connection. It was two wonderful weeks.
In addition to our formal lessons each morning, we had many interesting conversations about life in Italy and the cultural similarities we shared. Lucia is a very experienced, highly qualified, and patient teacher. She never tired of correcting my many mistakes.
I loved the informal lessons we had while in her car, while enjoying her delicious meals, or while strolling along the streets of Borgomanero. She wholeheartedly welcomed me into her home and took me to visit many spectacular palaces, museums, gardens, and small towns that were well off the beaten track. The experience was unforgettable! I can't think of a better way of spending a few weeks in Italy.

Lucia, you have changed my life! I came here to learn a little Italian, but I've learned so much more. You are a wonderful teacher and guide, and I have enjoyed every minute of my time with you. Our visits to the lakes and mountains, as well as our shopping and cooking experiences, were all "perfetto." I will remember all of this for the rest of my life. Grazie Lucia xxx

Thank you so much, Lucia. Grazie tantissimo! Lucia has incredible patience and years of experience teaching people from all over the world. She is warm and welcoming, truly sincere, and always willing to share her genuine thoughts on any topic. As long as you are an open-minded person, she is happy to discuss anything and is also willing to agree to disagree. Even though I consider myself rather impatient, perfectionistic, and particular, she perfectly adapted to my learning needs and interests. This included:
- Studying the pronunciation of opera arias and 17th-century Italian songs.
- Creating or finding a resource for prepositions upon my request.
- Visiting the Opera Houses in both Milan and Turin.
- Dining at a wonderful Michelin-starred restaurant, even though it didn't completely align with her personal beliefs.
- Arranging for me to meet her friend, a primary school teacher, over wine, even though my Italian was still troppo orribile!
Lucia is too humble about her cooking skills. It was such a joy to have delicious, healthy meals every single day. I am so grateful.

Thank you so much, Lucia, for your hospitality, knowledge, and patience with me as a beginner. I've very much enjoyed the week—our lessons, your lovely food, and our trips out. Our visit to Lake Orta was particularly beautiful. I'll always remember the Prince of Ricetto, such a lovely cat, and the magnificent village. Thank you again, with my very best wishes!

This is my second visit, and it has been even better than the first. I feel I've made great progress and am now more confident, all thanks to Lucia's patience and well-planned lessons. It also helps that the experience isn't all work; there are wonderful trips out in the beautiful countryside, as well as opportunities to meet family and friends. I will be back!

Lucia, what a wonderful time I've had in Borgomanero. I've enjoyed seeing all the beautiful places you have so kindly taken me to. You are an excellent tour guide—I never needed to count my steps with you! You have been so kind and patient with me; Italian does not come easy to me. Despite my "blank" looks, you have always encouraged me to go on, and your teaching method is spot on. I now understand so much more. Thank you so very much for everything.

Lucia, it was such a joy to be back with you. I had a truly memorable stay, with so many wonderful excursions and delicious food. It was fantastic to meet your friends, and I'll always remember the amazing concerts we attended. I'm sure your son makes you so proud.
Thank you so much for your warmth and care. I feel completely at home with you and am so grateful for the many hours of study. I know I'm lazy with my spoken Italian, as I hate making mistakes, but my comprehension has improved so much, and my writing is now so much more natural. You are a dear friend, and I hope to visit you again one day! I'll never forget our Vintebbio adventure.

Dear Lucia, it has been a very intense learning experience for me. Every minute was full of so much information—my brain is saturated! This experience is only the beginning of my learning, and I will continue to study. I'll write to you so you can see how much I've learned from you. Thank you so much.

Dear Lucia, thank you very much for making the last five days so pleasurable. You are a very easy person to be with. Staying with a complete stranger is quite worrying, but we need not have been worried. Your patience, skills as a teacher and guide, and friendly temperament have made this a memorable and satisfying start to our summer in Italy! Grazie!

Two years ago as I made plans to visit Lucia for lessons in Italian COVID hit. So for the next two years I received lessons from her through Skype. During that time we became friends, I learned so much and I was definitely looking forward to in person lessons. It has been fabulous - more than fabulous.
I not only have learned so much more Italian but I have also learned an incredible amount of information about this beautiful area.
Our friendship has grown even more. She brought me to so many fantastic and interesting places. I could not have asked for a better vacation or a better learning experience. Friends forever!!

Grazie, grazie for such a lovely stay in your home! I was a bit nervous at first, but you were great at making me feel welcome and comfortable. Even in a short week, I think my Italian has improved, and I'm feeling much more confident now. It was great to spend time with you and your lovely family!
I will miss watching Lingo every evening! Grazie again, a presto!

I'm turning 50 next week, and as a gift to myself, I decided to come to Italy for a week-long immersion program. My experience with Lucia's program has far exceeded my expectations. I've truly enjoyed learning this beautiful language through multiple formats—from formal lessons on grammar and vocabulary to reading comprehension and engaging conversations with Lucia and the locals. Another beautiful part of this program is the exposure to Italian culture and visits to neighboring sites. The culture is so fascinating, and it gives you the context you need to truly understand the language.
Lucia has been an incredible host, teacher, and friend and has made this a truly memorable experience. I plan to continue learning Italian with Lucia after I leave. Lucia, grazie di tutto! Arrivederci!

I don't know where to begin! This past week with you has allowed me to not only advance my language skills, but also to experience life in Italy as an Italian. Your lessons are designed so that one can learn so much in a short time, building on each other and providing the reinforcement needed. I especially appreciated my lesson on the train to Turin!
Beyond the lessons, our trips were absolutely amazing—Lake Orta was my favorite, along with Turin, Milan, and various outings around Lake Maggiore. I loved that everything was tailored to my interests.
As if being a great teacher and tour guide weren't enough, you were also a fantastic host. I felt at home immediately, and everything I could have possibly needed was provided for me (including the panettone!).
Thank you for allowing me to spend time with your family as well. A coffee with your daughter, dinner with your children, and pizza with your sister all added to the experience. I truly valued our conversations about life, work, and politics. I am leaving Italy having made a new friend and hope to return soon to enjoy this beautiful area together. A presto e grazie mille.

If you want a really intensive Italian course and to explore the Italian lakes, Lucia de Zuani's homestay in Novara is perfect. You have one-on-one lessons in the morning and then go on a trip in the afternoon around the lakes or to nearby castles. The apartment is comfortable rather than luxurious.
You speak Italian all day, and she corrects your mistakes as you go. We shared meals, both at her home and at simple restaurants. It is hard work, but I really improved my very rusty Italian in four days. I would seriously recommend her if you are serious about learning Italian. If I went again for longer, I would probably take half a day off in the middle to give my brain a rest!

I arrived feeling anxious and leave feeling more confident. Thank you for your infinite patience and kindness during my eight-day immersion. Learning at your table, in the car, on a hike, at a restaurant, or wherever our many excursions took us was a lesson that didn't feel like a lesson. You are a wonderful host and teacher, and I'm so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of your life, if only briefly. I hope I can return, but if not, I will remember my time here with great fondness.

To be fully immersed in the daily life of an Italian home is the best way to learn the language. Thank you for sharing your home and friends with us. Thank you for your instructive lessons and patience.
Our time with you has built our confidence and improved our Italian. We enjoyed the many excursions and spending time with you! Let us know when you're coming to the U.S. Our home is your home!

I enjoyed three weeks with Lucia after many years of dreaming of an immersion in the Italian language and culture. She is a very good teacher and an expert in grammar. I admit I was probably a challenging student trying to learn the difference between passato prossimo and imperfetto. Lucia's hospitality was beyond expectation.
The apartment was very comfortable and private with my own bedroom and bath, the meals were delicious and nutritious, the spring water was wonderful, and the outings were fabulous. I fell in love with this area of Italy.

Everything that everyone else has said is true. Lucia is a gifted teacher who never gives up. She has amazing energy and patience and is truly interested in seeing you make progress. She never missed a single opportunity to teach me or to help me. I have had a wonderful week. The area is great and so beautiful. Honestly, nothing could have been better! I hope that I will return again. I have learned so much! Thank you for all of your efforts and kindness. I will remember this special week always.

Lucia, this has been a fantastic experience for me. At the outset, I doubted I would make much progress, having no Italian to begin with. Yet today at lunch with your friends, I managed to more or less hold a conversation and understand even more. So I regard that as a huge success. The icing on the cake was the effort you made to make me feel so welcome and at ease and to include me in your life for three weeks. I so enjoyed our walks! You are lucky to live in such a beautiful place, and those who follow me here will have a charming guide to bring it all to life. Finally, many thanks for introducing me to your local recipes. They were delicious. I hope the sun shines for the rest of your summer. All the best.

The week has flown by. I have visited interesting places and been shown endless patience as I made the same mistakes yet again! Nothing is too much trouble for Lucia, as she makes you so welcome. I really appreciate that, as it must have been difficult with you not feeling well. It has been a wonderful experience, which I hope to repeat in the future.

The past ten days have flown by, with interesting discussions, fun and laughter, half in English, half Italian, but more in Italian as we slowly progressed. The lessons moved fast for us, but as we learnt more, the language began to make sense.
Lucia seems to have endless energy. As we host students in England we know how tiring it can be, but she combines her roles at work, as a mother as a friend and as a host seamlessly integrating them into her life, so that the experience here is not simply seeing the area, encountering her friends, experiencing the Italian way of life, enjoying her food and sharing recipes and learning the Italian language, it is - most unforgettably - Lucia herself.
Grazie per tutto, Lucia, come and visit us in York, and I'm sure we'll be back every time we have the excuse to brush up our Italian.

I came from Melbourne for the three-week immersion program and a holiday, and it's been wonderful.
Everything Lucia mentioned on her website happened, and much, much more. It's a great way to improve your Italian and see the fantastic province of Novara. By the third week, I was speaking so much more Italian than I was in the first. We had lessons every day, and I had plenty of opportunities to speak with locals in all kinds of situations—at the post office, bars, shops, and banks. Lucia is a very patient teacher and translated whenever I didn't understand. She's also a great cook, providing a different dinner almost every night! We went on many local excursions, as there is so much to see nearby, especially around the two lakes. Getting to Novara, Milan, and Arona is easy by train or bus if you want to go off on your own. I'm sure you'll love it as much as I did. I hope to be back again in the future. Ciao!

Right from the start, Lucia made me feel relaxed and at home in her apartment. She is a most caring and thoughtful host for whom nothing is too much trouble. She looked after my every need and cooked beautiful, interesting meals.
As a teacher, she is gently encouraging. She chats in a relaxed and natural way on all sorts of topics, and if I don't understand, she repeats more slowly, or explains as necessary. Two weeks here have really helped me a lot with my Italian and, although it is nowhere near as good as I would like it to be, improvements are thanks to her patient and discerning teaching.
I came here with the idea of improving my Italian. Little did I know what a wonderful time I would have exploring this region with Lucia as my guide. We've been to so many different and interesting places that it's hard to pick out one highlight, but lying on top of Mottarone with the sun on our faces and the world at our feet is surely high on the list. Lucia has been more than a host and teacher. She has become a friend whom I very much hope to see again in the future. Grazie mille!

I visited Lucia last summer for one week. The few days that I spent with her were very useful for my Italian study. Lucia was very generous with me, and I felt that I was in my own home.
She is very gentle and caring, she prepared worksheets for me for practicing the Italian language all the time, and she was very patient to listen to me when I talked with her in Italian.
I also met Lucia's friends, and they are very nice and welcoming. They invited us to dinner, and we spent a lovely time with them. I hope that next year I will visit her again, because now she is not just a teacher but also a friend.
